A Message from Our School Nurse

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has requested this information be shared with all preschool families.

The Flu: A Guide for Parents flyer created by the MDPH gives information on the causes and symptoms of the flu, how it is spread, and specifics on the influenza vaccine. It is recommended that all children age 6 months and older get the influenza vaccine annually. You can learn more here: http://www.mass.gov/eohhs/docs/dph/cdc/flu/the-flu-guide-for-parents.pdf.

The bulletin on meningococcal disease discusses the disease, the ways it is spread, and who is most at risk. Children under 5 years of age have a higher rate of the disease than older children, however, attending school or daycare are not considered to increase this risk. Routine vaccination with the meningococcal vaccine is not currently recommended for healthy preschool children. To learn more read the MDHP commonly asked questions here: http://www.mass.gov/eohhs/docs/dph/cdc/meningitis/menin-daycare.pdf.

Please feel free to contact Jessica Gearin, our school nurse, at 781-273-7622, with any questions or concerns.
